The tattoo parlor is a small but growing business in the small town of Humboldt.
Anita, who goes by Nelly, says she’s a huge fan of tattoos.
She loves the attention she gets when she does a tattoo on someone.
“The only time I have had a negative reaction was when someone told me that I was not good enough for them,” she said.
“So it really makes me feel really good knowing that I am loved by people.
It gives me a sense of accomplishment.”
In a way, tattoos are a kind of rite of passage.
“I think it’s so important to have a sense that you’re really a part of something,” said Nelly.
“And I think that if you have a tattoo, it helps you understand yourself a little bit better.”
Tattoos are a rite of entry in the tattoo business.
Nelly said they are the most popular way to express yourself.
“They are a way for people to connect with themselves,” she explained.
“It helps them understand their own feelings, and it allows them to express themselves a little more in a positive way.”
Nelly’s tattoo is a message that says ‘Love, respect and kindness.’
“I am so thankful that I have a partner who is supportive of me in my tattoos,” said she.
“They make it so that I can express myself more.”
A tattoo can be anything from a simple drawing to a full blown masterpiece.
Nelly has had a few different tattoo artists over the years, including tattoo artist Nick Smee.
“He’s a really amazing guy,” said her sister.
“I just like the idea of it being done on my body, so that when I get a tattoo it feels really special,” said Nick.
For many tattoo artists, a full-on tattoo can feel more like a painting.
“A lot of people get really hung up on their skin,” said tattoo artist Kevin Hickey.
“It’s not really the point.
It’s about expressing something, but also making sure that it’s not going to look like something that would look bad on me.”
In many ways, tattoos and tattoos culture are similar.
“Tattoo is an art form that is very much tied to culture,” said Hickey.
Tattourers like Nick and Kevin Hicker have been known to come together in the past to do some serious work.
“We have done some of the most elaborate tattoos we’ve done, and we have really taken to it,” said Kevin.
“We do lots of them,” said the tattoo artist.
In the past, tattoos were often made with only one part of the body, like on the face.
But now, it is becoming more common to add other parts of the skin.
“There are more and more tattoo artists doing full tattoos,” Kevin said.
Kevin and Nick Hicker do a lot of tattooing.
“My sister, Nelly was doing her own tattoos,” he said.
“She would do a full tattoo of her face, and she would make it really elaborate.”
“I would really like to work with people who have a similar style, and who are really comfortable with the process,” said Hickey, who also has a tattoo shop.
“People who are more comfortable in their own skin.
I think there are people who would rather do a tattoo than do a painting,” he added.
